The Imperial Durbar Album of the Indian Princes, Chiefs and Zamindars

 Fonds
Reference Code: GBR/0115/RCS/Y3022O

Scope and Contents

A two-volume printed work containing biographies of 194 Indian and Burmese rulers with tipped-in portraits. Edition limited to 300 copies. Plates 1-31 are photogravure prints, the remainder are half-tone reproductions of varying quality: although not original photographic prints they have been included in the catalogue of the photograph collection as representing an important source for portrait of major and minor rulers, many probably not available elsewhere. Biographical notes have been compiled from the often sketchy notes accompanying the pictures, with additional material from Lethbridge (1893) and Rohatgi (1983). Reproductions from the work of various photographers including Bourne and Shepherd, Herzog and Higgins, Johnston and Joffmann, Vernon and Co., Devare and Co., and Eos and Co.
