Tigendra, 1969-01
Contains slides including a group of seven interiors of Marnham's house taken in August 1968, three showing servants in February 1968 and one of the visit of the Mayor for the celebration of the Queen's birthday on 20 April 1968. The majority show the garden, from scenes in April 1967 to seven transparencies making up a panorama taken on the eve of departure in March 1970. In between these are extensive views both of individual clumps of flowers and more general scenes.

The original titles and captions have been enclosed in single quotation marks, and have been transcribed in the catalogue as found, with the exception of an egregiously offensive term used in some titles, which has not been transcribed. Where possible, modern place names have been supplied.

196 x 238 mm. Showing a large tree on the banks of the Umzingwani, with two unidentified Pioneers standing at its base. Surridge specifically mentions the size of the timber on the banks of the river compared to that in the neighbouring country (1891). The photograph was taken about July 15.

Measuring 195 x 255 mm, this album contains sepia photographs 145 x 90 mm in size, two to a page, followed by 26 blank spaces. They are mainly of rural and urban scenes in North Africa. The only one captioned shows Timgad.

With Alldridge stands a member of the Frontier Police, formed in 1890 and merged in 1901 with other forces to form the West African Frontier Force. Behind the two are a group of bearers holding the Commissioner's canopied hammock 'the advantages of...[which]...are, that it is a protection from the sun and allows one to jot down topographical observations and to take compass bearings' (Alldridge 1901, pp. 54-5).
