Collection of prints inserted in a bound copy of the Rhodesia-Nyasaland Royal Commission Report (Cmd. 5949) 1939. Written on the title page is 'Illustrated with the Chairman's snapshot photographs.' Plate 1 is inside the front cover; the remainder are in pairs on sheets of paper bound into the volume at intervals. They are prints of sharp definition and high quality, mostly 140 x 90 mm, but numbers 5, 17, 18, 44, 46 and 47 are approximately 95 x 120 mm. All have hand-written captions. ...

A collection of numbered prints, unless otherwise stated measuring circa 210 x 160 mm, in a 19 page typescript volume entitled 'Barotseland', written and illustrated by Max Gluckman. His typescript is undated but the illustrations closely resemble, and in some cases are identical with, those used in Gluckman (1945) of which a photocopy is filed with this collection. It is not known how these photographs were used - perhaps projected by epidiascope. Numbers 1-54 are captioned on the back,...

195 x 145 mm. A group of African soldiers in the foreground includes some wounded and disabled. The main parade can be seen in the background. Soldiers from the Gold Coast served in Togo, the Cameroons and East Africa. See ‘The Gold Coast Regiment in the East African Campaign’ by Sir Hugh Clifford (1920) and H.A. Gailey Clifford (1982) pp. 84-86. The photograph was probably taken on the return of the Regiment in September 1918, but the parade is not mentioned in either book.
