The letter also includes a description of the local topography of Sydney and his opinion of the country - 'a more dreary, dismal, barren, inanimated [sic] country I believe does not exist anywhere in the whole world'.

Most of the letters are unsigned. Prior to 1832 the letters are from the companies that preceded Jardine, Matheson & Co., notably Charles, Magniac & Co. and Magniac & Co. C10/2-63 and C10/65-67 include indexes of recipients.
