Observations and related papers from a voyage of HMS Providence, 1794 - 1798
Scope and Contents
Letters and papers concerning observations made on the voyage of HMS Providence under Captain William Broughton, largely by astronomer John Crosley. The observations by Crosley include an account of the shipwreck of the Providence in May 1797 [RGO 14/68: 133]. After the loss of the Providence, Captain Broughton continued his survey in the ship’s schooner, and additional observations from this second stage of the voyage are included here, made by Broughton, by the ship's master, William Chapman, and by midshipman John J. Hayward.
