The book resulted from a journey from Cape Town via Kimberley and the Transvaal to the Victoria Falls and back to Port Elizabeth.

A statement of monies received and disbursed for military purposes by Thomas Buckley of Cambridge, 20 April-2 November 1643, in his role as treasurer of the Association of Eastern Counties. The statement records the proportion paid to each county 'truly collected out of the bookes of Accomptes belonginge to the sayd Treasurer; examined and agreeable with the Orders (for payments) from the sayd Committee, under theire hands; and caste up per John Welbore gent'.
