Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith, Singapore

Photographs show a Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith (now in the custody of Mr Pastouna in Germany) that was delivered to the Governor of Singapore and used for various formal occasions. Rosary of the life and passion of Jesus Christ

A note inserted by the donor gives the opinions of a keeper of prints at the British Museum, and of E. A. Bond, of the engravings. Couplets below each cut in the volume; prayer in Flemish on verso of each leaf; final prayer (fo. 55v) dated at end: 'Finis Anno 1530 F M B'.

Soon after its foundation in 1868, the Royal Colonial Institute had envisaged the establishment of a museum, but following the 1886 Colonial and Indian Exhibition in South Kensington, and the creation of the Imperial Institute, the plan was abandoned. Over the years, however, the society built up a small, eclectic collection of objects as members donated items they had received as gifts or purchased during work or travel overseas.
