Scope and Contents

Correspondence between D.G.M. Bernard, Matheson & Co. Ltd, and Fielding, Son & Macleod, stock-brokers, London; Ethel Maitland, Countess of Lauderdale, Thirlestane Castle, Berwickshire; and McJerrow & Stevenson, solicitors, Lockerbie, regarding the Trust for Lady Carew. There are many related letters and papers, including three typescript copies of the trust deed made by James Jardine Bell-Irving to provide a Fund for the education of his grandchildren, Ivor Maitland and Sylvia Maitland (subsequently Lady Carew), 24 October 1923, with a précis, and three typescript copies of the settlement of 1929 made by Bell-Irving to establish a Trust for Ivor Maitland, with a précis of that document. The remaining related documents are concerned mainly with investments in connection with the Trusts. The ring-binder is labelled 'Lady Carew'.
