A note on the mount reads ‘as it was in 1895 now entirely different with large buildings erected'. The absence of any signature on the print makes it possible that the photograph was indeed taken around this time before the Lazarus Brothers had set up their business. The only two photographs listed in ‘The Delagoa Directory for 1899’ (its first year of issue) are Julio Jose Rebeiro and Raul Da Silva.
