Miscellaneous Items, 1979, 1985 - 1997
Scope and Contents
A box of published material produced by various organisations, the contents of which have some relation to Spitting Image, Spitting Image Productions Limited or Roger Law. The following items are present:
1. A blue album that contains tearsheets of magazine front covers, and examples of advert posters for Mannesmann Tally printers. These items feature Spitting Image puppets. There is also a front cover for a 1979 issue of The Economist, which has a Luck & Flaw illustration. The publications represented in this album include: City Limits Magazine; European Rubber Journal; Lithoweek; Management Today; M: The Observer Magazine; Nursing Times; Opportunities; Panorama [Spanish magazine]; Rolling Stones; Schadelspalter; Sinclair User; SKTF; Social Studies Review; Time; Time Out; TV Times; and Your Sinclair.
2. A programme for an exhibition commemorating the 1984-1985 miners' strike, displayed at the Stoke-on-Trent City Museum and Art Gallery, between 12 October and 14 December 1985. Spitting Image Productions Limited are mentioned, amongst other organisations and companies, in the acknowledgement section on page 1.
3. The January 1987 issue of Ziggurat, the magazine of the University of East Anglia Society. The cover has images of Spitting Image puppets.
4. A brochure for a series of summer events held by Manchester Polytechnic [now Manchester Metropolitan University], between 1 and 30 July 1989. An image of the Spitting Image Margaret Thatcher puppet is on the cover, in connection to a debate on Thatcherite Britain.
5. Vol. 174, No. 128 (Monday 25 June 1990) issue of the parliamentary publication, Hansard. Spitting Image is mentioned in an exchange between Labour Party politician, Dennis Skinner, and the Conservative Party politician, Kenneth Baker, in the House of Commons.
6. A book, A Sense of Permanence? Essays on the Art of the Cartoon, produced by the University of Kent's Centre for the Study of Cartoons and Caricature. Roger Law contributed an essay on Spitting Image, featured on pages 45 to 52.
