Research Material, 1983 - 1986
Scope and Contents
A box containing seven sub-files with research material collected by Lewis Chester, connected to his work on the publication, Tooth & Claw: The Inside Story of Spitting Image. The following are present:
1. A folder with letters received by Chester from Spitting Image's 'victims' (i.e. the celebrities and politicians that were the subjects of the show's activities). These individuals were asked by Chester for their opinion on the show and its portrayal of them. Also present in the folder are a small amount of notes, along with some press-clippings, both originals and copies.
2. A folder containing copies of letters sent by the show's producer, John Lloyd. These letters were sent to other members of Spitting Image Productions Limited and to Central Independent Television, regarding business matters. There are also copies of letters responding to those from the general public, either concerning complaints about the series or relating to sketches sent by amateur writers.
3. A folder containing correspondence and papers relating to members of Spitting Image Productions Limited and Central Independent Television.
4. A folder with the script for the unaired 1983 pilot of Spitting Image, along with a transcript for the 1980 BBC Arena episode on Luck & Flaw, and a post-production script for the 1985 BBC Omnibus episode, Luck & Flaw's Illustrated Guide to Caricature.
5. A folder with interview notes, letters and other documentation relating to Peter Fluck and Roger Law.
6. A folder of interview notes and memoranda relating to John Banks, John Lloyd, Ian St. John, Charles Denton and other individuals connected to the series in a production/managerial capacity. There is also a small amount of other documentation present.
7. A folder of interview notes relating to Spike Bucklow, Chris Barrie, Louise Gold and other individuals connected to the series in an artistic and lower staff level.
