The Sunday Times Magazine, 1976 - 1982
Scope and Contents
A box containing issues and tearsheets for British newspaper Sunday supplement, The Sunday Times Magazine, which feature Luck & Flaw plasticine model illustrations. One of the issues also has an article that features the partnership's ceramic ware.
The following are present:
1. Issue 4 July 1976, which features illustrations of the party nominees for the 1976 American presidential election. There is an illustration of Jimmy Carter (L&F/30) on the cover, and illustrations of Gerald Ford (L&F/125), Ronald Reagan (L&F/200), Hubert Humphrey and Edmund Muskie (L&F/153), Governor George Wallace (L&F/246), Senator Henry Jackson (RL/Pre-/977), Governor Jerry Brown (L&F/3), and Richard Nixon (RL/Pre-/738), between pages 24 and 29. The photographic images have been taken by a number of photographers: Bob Cramp, Brian Morris, Neil Selkirk, and John Lawrence Jones. Some of these images also appeared in other publications, including The New York Times Magazine and Stern.
2. A tearsheet from issue 11 October 1976, which features an illustration of British actor, Andrew Faulds, depicted as a libidinous faun (L&F/121).
3. Issue 7 November 1976, which features illustrations on the cover and between pages 48 and 53 that depict proposed roles for each nation in the European Economic Commission. These illustrations are captioned by Tony Hendra, and were photographed by Bob Cramp. A slightly altered version of this article previously appeared in the May 1976 edition of National Lampoon (L&F/107-116).
4. A tearsheet with the cover for issue 5 June 1977, which features an illustration of Queen Elizabeth II and her consort, Prince Philip (L&F/192).
5. A tearsheet from an unidentified 1977 issue, which features an illustration of political advisor and former Chairman of the Arts Council, Lord Goodman (L&F/146).
6. Issue 16 December 1977, which features an illustration on page 8 of Australian media tycoon, Kerry Packer, depicted as Genghis Khan (L&F/182).
7. Issue 20 April 1980, which features an illustration of musician, Bob Geldof, on page 85 (L&F/269).
8. A tearsheet from an unidentified issue, c late 1980-c early 1981, which features an illustration of British Conservative politician, Michael Heseltine, depicted as a teddy boy (L&F/144).
9. Issue 8 February 1981, which features an illustration of British Labour politicians Michael Foot and Denis Healey on page 57 (L&F/123).
10. Issue 5 April 1981, which features an illustration of British Conservative politician, Francis Pym, on page 78 (L&F/190 (b)).
11. Issue 26 April 1981, which features an illustration of Irish politician, Charles Haughey, on page 47 (L&F/138).
12. Issue 21 June 1981, which features an article on commemorative memorabilia for Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer's wedding. There is a photograph of Fluck and Law with a number of their Prince Charles ceramic loving cups.
13. Issue 27 September 1981, which features an illustration of British politicians, Shirley Williams, David Owen, Roy Jenkins and Bill Rodgers; depicted as characters from Lewis Carroll's novel, Alice in Wonderland (L&F/211).
14. Issue 18 October 1981, which features an illustration on pages 36 and 37 of British-South African businessman, Michael Edwardes, depicted as a jockey (L&F/93).
15. Issue 29 November 1981, which features an illustration on page 11 of British comedian, Rowan Atkinson, depicted as a mosquito underneath a magnifying glass (L&F/11 (b)).
16. A tearsheet with a page from an unidentified issue, c 1981, which features an illustration of British Labour politicians, Tony Benn and Eric Heffer, depicted as the comedy duo, Laurel and Hardy (L&F/17).
17. Issue 7 March 1982, which features an illustration on page 11 of British broadcaster, Alan Whicker (L&F/247).
18. A tearsheet with a page from an unidentified Easter edition, which features an illustration of British broadcaster, Pam Ayres (L&F/12).
Unless otherwise stated, the photographic images of the illustrations were taken by John Lawrence Jones.
