Jones was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1965. He served on Council 1970-1972 and was Vice President 1971-1972.
Jones served on a number of Royal Society committees, most notably the Paul Instrument Fund Committee. His service began in 1951 when he was nominated by the Physical Society as their representative on the committee.
