Biographical / Historical

Churchill College was founded in 1959 as the national and Commonwealth memorial to Sir Winston Churchill.

Sir Winston Churchill had been very impressed by MIT during a visit to the US and wished to have a similar institution in the UK. Consequently, the College was founded with an emphasis on studying science, technology, engineering and maths - an emphasis the remains until the present day with only 30% humanities students admitted each year.
