Letter to “Most noble & dear Count” [Edward Rose] from “your loving Old Boots” [his father, Caleb Rose], 1863
Telling Edward that he was going to Ipswich tomorrow, and would be back late Thursday or Friday morning. Hoping that a party on Monday night was pleasant, and saying that he had been very busy. Hoping that he would find them all well and happy.
Notifying, in mock formality, of his plan to visit “Mr Edward Rose, Esquire” for dinner next week and hoping Edward will provide champagne and turtle. Asking Edward to pass on good wishes to his grandparents.
Urging Edward Rose to work hard, cultivate disciplined habits and not put off tasks. Telling his son that he hates to find fault with him and that all actions are accountable to God. Expresses great love for Edward.
