Letter from Caleb Rose to “Teddy” [Edward Rose], 6 August 1857
Scope and Contents
Sent from 4 Suffolk Place, Pall Mall [Mrs Sherrington was expecting Edward’s 1st half-brother Charles] to Edward Rose who was staying with his grandfather [Caleb Burrell Rose]. Sending birthday wishes, praising Edward as a good boy and saying his happiness depends on how he behaves. Enclosing five shillings (in stamps to be exchanged) as a present. Also thanking Edward for a letter, which he had been helped to write by his grandfather, expressing surprise at Caleb Burrell Rose’s trip to Manchester, and requesting Edward to pass on love and thanks to his grandparents who were taking care of him.
