Biography
Sir Humphrey Trevelyan worked in the Indian Civil Service, 1929-1947, before joining the British diplomatic service. His many diplomatic postings, included Baghdad (twice), Peking, Cairo and Moscow. He retired in 1965, but was recalled in 1967 as High Commissioner to Aden to oversee the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the region. He was appointed a life peer in 1968. He was a Director of Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, 1965-1970.
