Conditions Governing Access: From the Management Group: The University Archives are generally freely available to the holder of a reader's ticket for the Manuscripts Reading Room at Cambridge University Library, West Road, Cambridge CB3 9DR. Restrictions on access are imposed on certain categories of sensitive record: financial, governmental and personal, by order of the originating body or under data protection legislation. Scope and Contents This series comprises one file for each student enrolled for a graduate degree. For the period 1920-37, files also survive for unsuccessful applicants for admission. Each file contains correspondence, circulars, references, supervisor's and examiners' reports, and occasionally degree certificates from other institutions, off-prints, and photographs. From 1920, the graduate degrees awarded were Ph.D, M.Sc., M.Litt. and Diploma in International Law. From October 1952, the series includes files...

Conditions Governing Access: These files are closed to scholars for 80 years from the date of matriculation in accordance with data protection legislation. Individual files may be produced for scholars in cases where the student and referees/examiners are known to be dead. The files are stored off site. This series comprises one card for each student enrolled for a graduate degree. In 1988 the sequence was automated.

Dates: 1920 - 1988
Conditions Governing Access: The cards are closed to scholars for 80 years from the date of matriculation in accordance with data protection legislation. Individual cards may be produced for scholars in cases where the student is known to be dead.

These are the papers assembled by Mrs M.B. ('Greta') Burkill, first President of Cambridge University Graduate Society. As such they chiefly cover the period from its formal recognition by the University to her resignation in 1968 and document the full range of its operations.
