Conditions Governing Access
The University Archives are generally freely available to the holder of a reader's ticket for the Department of Archives and Modern Manuscripts, Cambridge University Library, West Road, Cambridge CB3 9DR. Restrictions on access are imposed on certain categories of sensitive record: financial, governmental and personal, by order of the originating body or under data protection legislation. Access information, including opening hours and how to obtain a reader's ticket, appears as part of the Library's web site (www.lib.cam.ac.uk).
Biographical / Historical
Established as the Board of Research Studies in 1920 in the wake of the introduction of the Ph.D., its name changed to the Board of Graduate Studies in 1966. The Board exists to i) admit graduate students and oversee their academic progress and ii) approve the award of degrees in respect of graduate study or contribution to learning.

BOGS 1 was transferred by the Board of Graduate Studies in batches, on 6 Oct. 2000, 26 August 2005, August 2015-April 2016, and August-November 2017; BOGS 2 on 11 June 2001; BOGS 3 in batches on 26 Jan. 2001, 12 March 2012 and 2 June 2015; BOGS 4/1 on 27 January 2004 and added to by Natalie Adams, Churchill College Archives on 13 May 2009; BOGS 5-6 by the Board on 26 May 2016.
The online catalogue was completed in November 2005 and emended in August 2009, September 2012, May-June 2016 and Jan.2018.
