235 x 177 mm. Another photograph of the same graveyard, but taken in greater close-up than Y309C/52. This photograph is taken at an earlier date but in fact contains more graves. Some of the sailors were exhumed for reburial in a memorial tomb. Photograph stamped J. Davis, whose business was taken over by Tattersall in 1903.

Apia is situated on Upolu Island in Western Samoa and after Pango-Pango is the most important harbour in the Samoan Islands. See also Y309993A and Y309C.

Angel Hope Freeman was a senior Lieutenant on HMS ‘Tauranga’, which arrived in Samoa on the 24th March 1899. Freeman’s grave can be seen clearly in Y309C/53. Copyright registered 21 Aug. 1899.

139 x 95 mm. A view showing a wooden bungalow with a raised verandah. As in Y309B/27 a flag pole announces the official status of the house, although this is a different building to that in Y309B/27, and is set among palm trees. From his correspondence it is clear that Powell moved several times during his stay in Samoa. The surrounding area looks very similar to that in Y309993A/36, although the building is different, or has been altered.
