With fountain in foreground and house beyond. [The building was constructed circa 1856 to replace the governors former residence at Mount Lavinia (which then became the Mount Lavinia Hotel). The house is surrounded by an eight acre garden and the main entrance is opposite the G.P.O in Queen Street].

H.M.S. ‘Bacchante’ and ‘Ruby’ are anchored in the harbour within the area enclosed by the breakwater. The two princes remained in Ceylon from 25th January to 6th February 1882.
