Sir Geoffrey Archer records that when Bell became Governor of Mauritius in 1916: '... he built, at the bottom of Government House garden, an aquarium juting out into the sea. There he used to exercise an almost uncanny fascination for the deep-sea fish which, at a sign from him, would come swimming up to the surface to be tickled and fed.' (Archer 1963, p 44).This aquarium, being on the seashore, is presumably the one built...
