Water colours and pen and ink sketches documenting Anderson's travels in southern Africa, accompanied by his original captions and explanatory notes. The original titles and captions have been enclosed in single quotation marks, and have been transcribed in the catalogue as found, with the exception of an egregiously offensive term used in some titles, which has not been transcribed. Where possible, modern place names have been supplied.

At the village of Mochudi in the Bakgatla Reserve, 1960-07
204 x 156 mm. Showing a procession of women, led by a chanting man. The caption on the reverse reads 'The procession is announcing a wedding to the 'Kgotla', or general meeting, of the Tribe. A 'Kgotla' is arranged whenever the Chief wants to talk to adult males and (on occasion) to women and children. The Bakgatla tribe is widespread, mostly in the Transvaal'. A more lengthy caption summarises the physical and human geography of the Bechuanaland Protectorate.

They have been retained to reflect the context of the collection's creation. The book resulted from a journey from Cape Town via Kimberley and the Transvaal to the Victoria Falls and back to Port Elizabeth.
