One of the sports who turned out at 2pm to go to the ceremony'. Spurrier was for many years the Government Health Officer in Zanzibar and was also for a period the editor of the 'Zanzibar Gazette'.

The Sultan arrived at the market, situated on the west bank of the Creek Canal, at 4.30 where he was received by the Regent, A.S. Rogers and the Consul-General B.S. Cave.
