Landscape with cattle grazing outside the town of Sinkunia, Dembella country, Protectorate of Sierra Leone, 1890 - 1899
157 x 112 mm. A view looking across pastureland, on which cattle are grazing, towards forest and distant hills. Alldridge recalls Sinkunia, situated west of Falaba about 150 miles from Freetown as the crow flies, as 'a picturesque and open town with high hills near. The sight of cattle grazing recalled many a pretty scene of pastoral English landscape'. (Alldridge 1901, page 290).

Postcards showing views in Sierra Leone, particularly in Free Town. The majority are by the Lisk-Carew Brothers, number 14 is by the Sierra Leone Government, Raphael Tuck and Sons Ltd, and number 15 is by Ceylon Pictorials. Numbers 20 and 30 give no indication as to the photographer.

200 x 150 mm. The ceremony was performed by H.R.H. the Duke of Connaught in the course of a one day visit to Sierra Leone. This is a duplicate of Y30446C/10, and the catalogue entry for this and Y30446L/11-12 give full details of the ceremony and the people shown.

210 x 150 mm. This is a duplicate of Y30446C/11 and shows the scene after the stone was lowered into position. Sir Crampton Smyly presided over a short ceremony and can be seen directly behind the Duke of Connaught.

Maternity and child welfare in Freetown, Sierra Leone, 1946 - 1954

For the past 50 years African doctors have been directing the Maternity Hospital and centre at Freetown, Sierra Leone. All the doctors and African nursing staff have been trained in England. The Centre includes an Ante-Natal clinic, Labour wards, Lying-in-wards, Post Natal and Infant Welfare Clinics.

Military Hospital, Freetown, 1908
Showing the Military Hospital (built in 1825 and still standing today, though no longer a hospital). The card was presumably sent by one of the American missionaries of the United Brethren in Christ mission stationed at Rotifunk. It is signed 'Alice' and is addressed to Miss Julia E. Landis in Ohio, U.S.A.

All of the photographs are uncaptioned and the majority measure approximately 200 x 150 mm. The geographical locations of the prints breaks down thus: 1 - 8 Calabar; 9 - 13, 16-17 Opobo; 22 - 27 Sierra Leone.
