Scope and Contents

Memoir by A.R. Chancellor of his service with the colonial police in Barbados and the Straights Settlements (7 sheets), with correspondence relating to its acquisition. There is a second brief note entitled 'My two adventures with crocodiles', probably also written by Chancellor.

The file contains two photographs, the first of Chancellor as C.P.O. Malacca [Melaka], taken in 1905, and the second of a Melakan police constable in 1903.

134 x 101 mm. Showing the ruins of the gateway of Fort St John. The gateway consists of an arch flanked by Ionic pilasters and octagonal towers and surmounted by a coat of arms carved in relief and a bell tower. Above the entrance is carved Anno 16 [?] 18.
