Scope and Contents From the Fonds: A collection of prints of various sizes. The photographs are mostly family portraits and albumen print cartes de visite of leading individuals in South Africa during his time. However, there are also some photographs of his retirement home, Roseneath, showing artifacts he had collected (35-53). The captions have been used as titles and may include language which is offensive, inaccurate or inappropriate. They have been retained to reflect the context of the collection's creation. Built in 1879-80 for the International Exhibition, it was the central landmark of the city for many years. Designed by Joseph Reed, the building cost £246,000 and contained 22 acres of floor space.
