Maiden was director of the Gardens from 1896-1924, and was the world authority on the Australian species of the Eucalyptus, as well as producing a prodigious variety of other...

The interior fittings of the stack, lift and staircase are wholly of steel, its floors of thick translucent plate glass, and when the heavy fireproof door is closed the Library is considered to be absolutely fireproof.' 280 x 230 mm. A view of the building from the roof of Government House and looking south towards the Garden Palace. A cruciform building 800 ft. long, with towers at the corners and a central dome 100 ft. in diameter, which collapsed in the fire 'with a crash like a peal of thunder'.
