Additional information on the caption states: ‘The bridge in foreground is over the South Tokomairiro River. Its total length, 180 feet, comprising three spans of 60 feet, on masonry piers and abutments. It was designed by John Caruthers, Esq, Engineer in Chief of New Zealand, and built by Messrs. Campbell and Co. in 1873’.
