360 x 256 mm. A view looking along the valley, with the railway bridge in the foreground, and a few farming settlements scattered on either side of the road. Additional information on the caption states: ‘The bridge in foreground is over the South Tokomairiro River. Its total length, 180 feet, comprising three spans of 60 feet, on masonry piers and abutments. It was designed by John Caruthers, Esq, Engineer in Chief of New Zealand, and built by Messrs. Campbell and Co. in 1873’.

Wreck of the ‘S.S. Otago’ at Chasland’s Mistake, 1876

Scope and Contents 237 x 196 mm. A view showing the two masted steamship aground at low water, next to a large tree-covered rock. The ‘Otago’ left Dunedin on December 3rd 1876, bound for Melbourne, striking Chasland’s Mistake south of Nugget Point early on the morning of the 4th during foggy weather. No passengers were injured.
