Waimakariri Bridge, 1876
361 x 265 mm. A view from the river bank looking towards the bridge, with grasses and rushes in the foreground. Additional information on the caption states: ‘This bridge carries the Addington and Kowai Railway over the River Waimakariri, in the provincial district of Canterbury. The bridge has a total length of 627 feet, made up of 19 spans of 33 feet each. The contract was let on the 21st April, 1871, and the work completed on the 16th November of the same year, at a cost of £4,400’.

The prints are a commercial souvenir set and are contained in a printed envelope sub-titled 'The wonderland of thermal grandeur'. The views show waterfalls, rivers, geysers and boiling lakes. Wairoa Landing, Lake Tarawera, 1885
198 x 144 mm. A view looking down on the lake from a wooded hillside. Wairoa is situated near the coast at Hawke Bay, and Lake Tarawara was the scene of the sighting of the ‘Phantom Canoe’ which to the Maoris presaged the volcanic eruption of 1886 (see Y308A131 and New Zealand postcards 100-111).

194 x 141 mm. A view looking down from a wooded hillside on to the beach and estuary at Waiwera, with a large house standing near the beach. Waiwera, which lies on the east coast just north of Auckland, is an area of hot thermal springs and was developed as a tourist area by Robert Graham (c 1820-1885), the man who also gave his name to Grahamstown.
