194 x 141 mm. General view looking along a road in the estate, with nipah palms growing on either side. The leaves from the palm are used in the construction of atap roofs in Malayan houses, the fruit in a preserve, and the juice extracted from the trunk fermented into a toddy. A note on the reverse reads: Main road and reserve for main pipe line to distillery, with main irrigation drains which supply subsidiary drains shown in other photograph. Nipah about 3 years old.

The first section includes descriptions of the social life and customs of the British, Malay and Chinese communities. The second section, based upon her letters, narrates the Le Flemings’ extensive travel within Malaya and Indonesia, and has been incorporated into the transcript of Hugh Le Fleming’s letters at RCMS 371/2 (80 pages).
