Scope and Contents
1. The Colonial Office: its policy in regard of officers who deserted immediately preceding the fall of Singapore
This memoir was submitted by Dickinson in response to a request from G. E. Gent, assistant under-secretary at the Colonial Office. The file includes Gent's letter and reply, and a letter from Dickinson accompanying the memoir.
2. Histories of the Second World War in Malaya
This section of the file preserves reviews, notes and correspondence relating to Noel Barber, 'Sinister twilight: the fall and rise again of Singapore' (1968); S. W. Kirby ‘Singapore: the chain of disaster’ (1971); Frank Owen ‘The fall of Singapore’ (1960); and John Smyth ‘Percival and the tragedy of Singapore’ (1971). It includes correspondence between Dickinson and Hugh Bryson, Noel Barber, John Smyth and Basil Liddell Hart.

Biographical / Historical
Arthur Harold Dickinson entered the colonial police service in 1912 and served in the Straits Settlements, becoming Inspector General of Police in 1939. He was interned in Singapore during 1942-1945, and retired in 1946.
