Kassagama, although there was no howdah, begged to be allowed to have a ride on the animal and very pluckily settled himself on a mattress which had been tied on the animal's back. With his great umbrella of state held over him by the mahout, he made an impressive figure and I took a good photograph of him in that position.'...

In 1926 responsibility for technical training transferred from Makerere to the Kampala Training College and Makerere became a general training college.
