The King of Toro on 'Futki' [1909], 1909

 Item
Reference Code: GBR/0115/RCS/Y3011C/73

Scope and Contents

Showing Kassagama of Toro riding on the elephant Futki: 'Futki travelled by easy stages from Hoima to Fort Portal, and her march continued to be a triumphal progress. Kassagama, although there was no howdah, begged to be allowed to have a ride on the animal and very pluckily settled himself on a mattress which had been tied on the animal's back. With his great umbrella of state held over him by the mahout, he made an impressive figure and I took a good photograph of him in that position.' (Bell 1907-1909, March 1909).
