The two albums were the property of Charles Edwin Collard, Captain, Royal Marine Light Infantry. The albums have been rebound, but the labels on the covers ‘Uganda 1898-1900’ have been retained. Most of the photographs are 115 x 90 mm. Collard was presumably the photographer except for the few prints in which he appears, and all the photographs are captioned. 105 x 76 mm. Showing Rev. Ernest Millar seated in the doorway of a building with two young Africans. Millar (1868-1917) first went to Uganda as a layman in 1892 and was ordained by Bishop Tucker the following year. He served at Mengo from 1893-1914 and was CMS Secretary in Uganda from 1912-17. 89 x 115 mm. Showing a Muganda warrior posed against the thatched wall of a stockade in a warlike attitude. The warrior, his shoulders and back smeared with chalk, carries two spears and a painted shield and wears a skirt of feathers.
