Mine dancing Durban Deep, 1965-10
This group of Kodachromes shows Africans dancing in what is clearly the same spot. No 6 is marked 'Mine dancing Durban Deep' and no 13 'Tribal dancing at Johannesburg gold mine.' Presumably, despite its name, Durban Deep is in Johannesburg. Nos 11 and 12 are captioned 'Gumboot dance' but the other slides are merely marked 'MD' without further details.

Miscellaneous glass plates, 1880 - 1980
Nothing is known of the provenance of this collection of lantern slides and glass plates. The images likely were created to illustrate lectures given at the RCS.
Miscellaneous sketches, 1840 - 1860
A list on the inside of the front cover indicates that the now empty album contained botanical drawings. It is filed with two loose sketches. The sketches may originally have been housed in the missing albums 4 and 5 which held work on Africa.

193 x 142 mm. Showing African labourers gathered around a cooking pot outside stone huts. Coal mining activity which was started in the area in 1859: the better quality coal from the Transvaal and Natal [KwaZulu-Natal] soon destroyed the foundations of the industry.
