'This is a view of the Valley looking out to sea. The chimneys in the centre are those of the Electric Power Station, belong to the Tramway Co. The buildings at the extreme left are a Sweet and Preserve Factory. The flat looking buildings at the top of the hill on the left is one side of the Fort. The other large sheds are principally used for storing wool.'

Mackenzie came to Kuruman as a L.M.S. missionary in 1858. In 1862 he was transferred to Shoshong and from 1869-71 he was on furlough in England. In 1873 he was appointed tutor at the Moffat Institution, then temporarily based at Shoshong, and moved with the school to Kuruman, where he taught from 1876-82. The majority show the garden, from scenes in April 1967 to seven transparencies making up a panorama taken on the eve of departure in March 1970. In between these are extensive views both of individual clumps of flowers and more general scenes.
