D Coy., Cape Town Highlanders, 1960 - 1980
201 x 137 mm. The annotation on the reverse, in a different hand to the title, reads 'Darling St., Cape Town, before embarking for Port Nolloth in transit for O'okiep. Time: some time early in 1900. D Coy spent about a year in garrison there before returning'. It then appears to be initialled but these are not clear. Photographer unknown.
Dahlia : Cleva (?) Garden, 1969-01
Contains slides including a group of seven interiors of Marnham's house taken in August 1968, three showing servants in February 1968 and one of the visit of the Mayor for the celebration of the Queen's birthday on 20 April 1968. The majority show the garden, from scenes in April 1967 to seven transparencies making up a panorama taken on the eve of departure in March 1970. In between these are extensive views both of individual clumps of flowers and more general scenes.

In her diary Wilson wrote: 'There are always vast herds of captive [?] cattle and houses along the line, and always enjoyment out of the children from the locations who run by the side of the train, and when it stops cut capers to attract attention and wimn pennies or cigarettes' (March 16 1902).

192 x 135 mm. A group photograph showing fifty members of 'B' company, 2nd/24th Regiment who survived the attack on Rorkes Drift on 22-23 January 1879. Lieutenant Gonville Bromhead (c. 1815-91), who commanded the company during the defence of Rorkes Drift, is seated in the front row at the right with a spaniel at his feet.

A series of watercolours commissioned from the Rhodesian artist Mrs Gilbert Stephenson to be used in colouring lantern slides to illustrate the fifth handbook, A.J. Sargent, 'South Africa: seven lectures (London, 1914). Stephenson had been recommended by the British South Africa Company.
