Scope and Contents 143 x 99 mm. Showing Cetshwayo's half brother Dabulamanzi seated in front of a Zulu hut with a woman, two men and a child beside him. Since there is only one woman present the caption may possibly mean that one of the men is Dabulamanzi's wife's brother. Dabulamanzi (circa 1844-1886) was a younger son of Chief Mpande and was present at Cetshwayo's coronation in 1873. He commanded the Undi Corps at Isandhlwana where his task was to circle around the hill and strike the retreating British....

Scope and Contents From the Fonds: The collection consists of a negatives album, produced by Lennon Ltd., Cape Town, containing 125 x 95 mm negatives and an envelope with six further negatives of the same size. Some are poor photographs but many that are apparently very faint contain a good deal of detail. Seven modern prints have also been made and are listed as Y305U/105-111. The images were taken by Albert Ernest Lamb and the captions are from the list in the front of the album. The captions have been used as titles...

142 x 69 mm. Showing the small chapel and schoolhouse standing on the foreshore at Kalk Bay, with boulder-strewn beach in the foreground and a rocky hill in the background. A note in C.W. Busk's hand adds: 'Kalk Bay when I visited it in 1914 was closely built all along the road on both sides with houses and the railway on the rocks, also Muisenberg beach, quite unrecognizable from what this photo shows in 1863-7'.

Charles Lewis Redwood, 1890 - 1910

A head and shoulders portrait of the son of Professor Theophilus Redwood and father of the donors of the collection. Redwood went to Natal as a young man and was a railway executive. He married Olivia Elizabeth Lys, daughter of John R. Lys of Pretoria. Redwood was later director of a gold mining company in Johannesburg.
