Pic-nic among the trees at Annandale, 1860 - 1869

View looking through the pines towards a group of bungalows outside the nearest of which a group of Europeans is seated picnicking among the trees, with jampan bearers standing to one side. The area around Annandale, to the north of the town, was a favourite place of recreation and the location of the Simla race-course. Bourne no. 1797.

284 x 215 mm. Portrait group of 50 European men and women posed in front of a timber framed house. The only figures identified are Lady Temple, Colonel Lindsay and Mrs Buckland.

274 x 211 mm. (oval print). Large group portrait of men and women, several holding tennis rackets. Senchal is a mountain (8,610 ft.) some six miles from Darjeeling. It was formerly a depot for European troops, and was a popular excursion destination.
