The City Hotel, Sandhurst, 1875

178 x 123 mm. An exterior view of the hotel, a narrow stone building with iron-work verandahs on the first floor. A horse carriage stands in front of the hotel which was built in 1872, at the height of the Bendigo building boom, and is situated at Charing Cross, just beyond Pall Mall.

The interior fittings of the stack, lift and staircase are wholly of steel, its floors of thick translucent plate glass, and when the heavy fireproof door is closed the Library is considered to be absolutely fireproof.'
