The album, which is not full, is a Saga self-adhesive album made in Japan. The first page reproduces the Charter and the Coat of Arms, with description (all in colour). The second page sets out brief facts about the Port's involvement in coal exports.

Port of Newcastle Nobby’s, 1870 - 1880

242 x 192 mm. A view looking out over the roofs of the town towards Nobby’s Head, with shipping in the harbour and moored to wharves. Nobby’s Head was originally an island (first mentioned in Captain Cook’s log for May 1770), the breakwater being constructed between 1818 and 1846. The lighthouse, built in 1857, can just be seen: previously the island had served first as a convict labour camp and then as a quarantine station.

Scope and Contents A large folio volume of pasted in satirical cartoons relating to South Australia. The cartoons are titled at the top 'Portonian', and have captions below the image. Many of the pictures are numbered and dated. The volume includes a satirical annual diary with a cartoon in the centre, 4 December 1875, and a plan of the city of Adelaide 'compiled and published by the proprietors, Frearson and Brother, Adelaide, 1874', which was a supplement to the 'Portonian', 13 March 1875. Scope and Contents 56 x 68 mm. Showing a seated head and shoulders portrait of the explorer. Around the perimeter of the print, is printed 'Professor Hall, Photo: Adelaide, Apr: 1863.' Stuart (1815-1866) was born in Fife and emigrated to South Australia in 1839. His first exploring expedition was with Charles Sturt in 1844, after which he practised as a surveyor until 1858. In that year he explored the Lake Torrens and Lake Gairdner hinterland, discovering rich grazing land of which he was later granted...
