Landscape format. House is named Tuharomatakaka. [House with elaborate carvings on eaves and with masks and totems. Margaret Pattison Staples-Browne, also known as Maggie or Mākereti Papakura, 1873-1930, stands on the verandah].

One of the posters stuck to the wooden fence in the foreground advertises a meeting of the Randwick Racing Club on Saturday 29 April. See note on dating in introduction to this collection.

180 x 140 mm. Showing the derrick with people, traps and horses grouped around. From the derrick fly two flags, the Union Jack, and another on which the lettering is too blurred to be decipherable. Probably taken during a fair or exhibition to judge by the tents and marquees in the distance.

An album containing 95 snapshot photographs with handwritten captions beneath, most measuring approximately 105 x 60 mm, and depicting life on a New Zealand sheep station. The album also contains 2 loose uncaptioned prints. Although an amateur family album, the pictures give an interesting and varied record of the sheep farmer's life and work. Huiarua is situated in the east coast district of the North Island between Opotiki and Gisborne.

191 x 140 mm. A view showing the small settlement of Kinloch on the lakeside, with the Humboldt Range rising in the background. The range, which lies north west of Queenstown, stretches northward along the shores of the lake and beyond.

390 x 133 mm. A panoramic view of a curve in the river taken from a garden by the riverside, with the ferry carrying a horse and wagon in the middle distance. The signs of ground clearing, and the fairly untrained nature of the garden, would make it seem probable that this was an area newly settled in 1873.

A collection of lantern slides of Australia (plus one duplicate). 5-10 are marked 'Commonwealth of Australia' and have serial numbers. 12-22 are marked 'Department of Agriculture and Stock, Brisbane'. The slides' captions have been used as titles and have been recorded as found.
