280 x 225 mm. A view of the west end of the buildings, looking up from the river. Designed by William Wardell in 1852, the Roman Catholic college was partially completed and in use in 1859, two years after it had been incorporated within the university.

200 x 147 mm. An exterior view of the cathedral, a fine product of the Gothic revival in Australia, situated on Eastern Hill facing down Gisborne Street, and designed in 1860 by William Wardell, who had earlier been a pupil of Pugin. The nave was in use by 1869, but the building was not consecrated as a cathedral until 1897.

Designed from London by William Butterfield, this squat Gothic building was completed by 1891, apart from the spires, which were added later. The spires are not present in this picture.

The building is the Church of England College, whose Act of Incorporation is dated December 1854, and although the building was not properly finished until 1859, parts of it were occupied from the previous academic year.
