A view looking down Oxford Street, which runs south-east from Hyde Park, showing the busy commercial street, with pedestrians, a stage coach and a steam tram (an amazing contraption towing a double-decker passenger car. These were introduced in 1879 when it was decided that the old horse-drawn trams, with their raised lines, impeded other traffic. By the end of the century Sydney had 100 miles of tramways).
