83 x 61 mm. A view from a hillside looking down on a longhouse raised on stilts, with an atap roof curving up to pointed ends. A smaller second storey rests on top of the main structure. The Menangkabau States were the small territories between Malacca, Pahang, Johore and Selangor whose original inhabitants are supposed to have come from Menangkabau in Sumatra.

Many are captioned and the captions have been used as titles and have been recorded as found. Titles supplied by the cataloguer are enclosed in square brackets. Many photographs have been identified as the work of Felix Beato.
