An interesting view showing Banda Islanders in long war canoes with decorated prows with the volcano rising from the shore beyond. The island seen here is Gunung Api, one of the smaller islands of the Banda group which lies about 50 miles south of Seram.

This lady is identified as Bourne's wife in one source (Clark Worswick, The last empire, (Aperture 1976) p. 60), but the authority for this statement is not given. As well as the banian grove which, formerly enclosed by shrubs, had been opened out by Lady Canning, the grounds at Barrackpore also contained a temple of fame, a menagerie and a gothic ruin (see following plate).
