This and Y3022N/42 were presumably taken during the Miranzi Campaign of 1891 when British forces under the command of Sir William Lockhart attempted to open up and stabilise the Miranzi Valley by building three fortified posts on the Samana Ridge. Much of the correspondence relates to an article printed in the 'Penang Gazette' on 17 April 1827, written by Captain Lake, Inspector-General of Plans at Penang, criticising the treaty the that Burney had recently negotiated with Siam [Thailand]. Several of the letters were written by William Cox, the editor of the paper. Burney's complaints to the Government of India were upheld.
