Miranzai, 1891
Scope and Contents
200 x 154 mm. View looking out over the Miranzi Valley, with a stone watchtower in the foreground. This and Y3022N/42 were presumably taken during the Miranzi Campaign of 1891 when British forces under the command of Sir William Lockhart attempted to open up and stabilise the Miranzi Valley by building three fortified posts on the Samana Ridge. For a short account of the campaign, see J.G. Elliott, ‘The Frontier 1839-1947 (London, 1968).
