100 X 65 mm. This loose print is somewhat puzzling. The preceding details are written on the back (not in Canham's hand). Sophiatown was an African suburb of Johannesburg, and in 1936 Canham was at Oxford. Possibly it was given to him by a friend in view of his interest in young people.

The caption below the photograph reads: 'The excessive length of the skull always appears to be more conspicuous in children than adults. With old adults the skulls almost resume their normal proportions. This babies cranium seems to overflow it's binding [sic]'.
Woman carrying baby, Bamenda, 1937-10
39 x 61 mm.neg; print 69 x 96 mm. The common method of carrying baby in the Bamenda division. The child sits astride the mother's back in a sort of hammock of goat skin slung from the shoulders and attached by thongs passing round the waist. The children seem to take to this method naturally and one often sees them helping the mothers and never a word is spoken, each does her 'bit' in getting comfortable.
